TAS Country : August 26th 2010
24 Tasmanian Country Friday, August 27, 2010 Advertising feature Education All a-board for fun learning experience Life at the Collegiate Boarding House has given me the opportunity to expand and grow: to recognise my own potential.' ST Michael's Collegiate has been providing a Hobart home for boarders for 118 years. Located amid lush gar- dens in the heart of the school, the boarding house provides excellent oppor- tunities for boarders to access facilities such as the indoor heated swimming pool, gymnasium, perform- ing arts centre and re- cently completed state-of- the-art student centre and library. Collegiate's rich board- ing tradition ensures that each girl is individually nurtured in an environ- ment that guarantees she really does feel that the boarding house is her home away from home. Being part of the Collegi- ate Boarding House opens up a myriad of possibilities --- from seeing the state on day trips or overnight camps, to making friends and learning to live togeth- er in harmony, the board- ing house provides it all. Girls are encouraged to go beyond their comfort zone, to explore their po- tential and make their mark on the world. Boarders learn about each other and grow together to form a very special extended family. As last year's boarding house prefect said: ''Life at the Collegiate Boarding House has given me the oppor- tunity to expand and grow: to recognise my own poten- tial. It has opened up a world of possibilities and given me the tools to ex- plore them all. ''Being a boarder at Col- legiate is an experience I will carry with me for life.'' St Michael's Collegiate offers boarding for girls from Years 5 to 12. Registrar Katherine Harris encourages families who are interested in boarding to contact her regarding Collegiate's ''Boarder for a Night'' program. ''It is a lovely way for girls to see what Collegiate has to offer and make an informed decision,'' she said. By day Collegiate boarders are engaged in a dynamic learning environ- ment. Collegiate is at the forefront of girls' education and recognises that girls have different needs de- pending upon their age and stage of education. The purpose-built Mid- dle School caters for students from Years 5 to 8 and is responsive to the characteristics and needs of young adolescents. Year 9 at Collegiate is ''A Year with a Difference'' in which girls are offered a curriculum that promotes independence and per- sonal responsibility. Collegiate's senior students (Years 10 to 12) undertake a wide range of subject choices to suit their interests, abilities and fu- ture aspirations. The school also offers vo- cational education and training programs with national accreditation. Collegiate's team of day and boarding staff are com- mitted to providing boarders with the best edu- cation in a caring and supportive environment.
