TAS Country : September 23rd 2010
Friday, September 24, 2010 Tasmanian Country 23 Ad feature Hay and silage season Services a cut above the rest Our policy is to look at all jobs, small or large, and negotiate price accordingly' PUNCHBOWL Farm Con- tracting Services covers the Derwent Valley and Bothwell and will consider other areas in the South. ''Our policy is to look at all jobs, small or large, and negotiate price accord- ingly,'' said a spokesman. ''We have a 3.5m Fella mower that is also con- figured to enable us to mow grass-seed crops and leave a narrower windrow. The mower width means we are able to cut paddocks quickly, ensuring the pad- dock is drying evenly and ready to deal with sooner. ''We advocate tedding paddocks behind the mower to speed up drying time and reduce the risk of rain downgrading quality. ''We have a Gallignani round baler which has the capacity to produce variable-sized bales rang- ing from 60cm to 180cm. ''We net wrap and have the option of engaging chopping blades for silage. To complement the baler we have a silage wrapper. ''To handle the silage bales we are prepared to wrap bales at the storage site to reduce the chance of tearing the plastic carting bales from the paddock. ''We have soft hands fit- ted to our front-end loader to handle silage bales. ''We are happy to bale stubbles and will endeav- our to be in the paddock behind the harvester if ad- equate notice is provided.'' Punchbowl Farm Con- tracting Services also does direct drilling, fencing (any size job), spraying and ground preparation. THAT'S A WRAP: Scott Williams Contracting offers a silage wrapping service. Southern clients are all wrapped up SCOTT Williams Contracting has grown from a small operation that concentrated only on the Derwent Valley to a large oper- ation that now offers a round baling and wrapping service to all of southern Tasmania. The tractors are transported by truck to all jobs, which enables the company to get to customers on time when their crop is ready to bale. Scott runs a Krone variable chamber round baler, which has proved a huge success, especially in the heavy green crops that are high in moisture. Some balers struggle in these conditions, but not the Krone. Another valuable machine in the fleet is the McHale automatic wrapper. This is capable of wrap- ping 90 round bales an hour in the right conditions. Both machines are towed by 90hp and 125hp John Deeres. Scott has sourced a cheaper and more durable wrapper for the coming season. It has been trialled in the North of the state and has proved to be a big saving for farmers. Another addition this year is a three-metre cut mower condition- er. This will enable hay to be cut and baled sooner, with less time required to dry. Scott runs the business with his sons Nathan and Luke. With the recent rain in the South, the company is gearing up for a busy season and looking forward to seeing existing and new customers in the coming months. Scott can be contacted any time on 0407 814 590.
