The quality of yearlings was good down the front row and prices were similar to last week but secondary cattle were harder to sell with less restocker competition. Most yearling steers sold for 177c-201c/kg with restockers paying 170c-180c/kg or $625-$813/head for some better framed steers. Most yearling heifers made 174c-191c/kg with most averages around 183c/kg liveweight. There were only 12 bullocks and the best made 188c/kg while some heavy crossbreds made 171c/kg and topped at $1,214/head. There were 53 cows yarded --- almost half were beef breeds. Heavy cows sold to strong compe- tition making 145c-153c/kg while lighter cows made 115c-126c/kg liv- eweight. There was a smaller pen- ning of just over 400 killable lambs and their quality was mixed. Most lambs sold to a similar market, although heavy trade lambs met an easier market with many under 500c/kg for the first time for some weeks. Heavy lambs sold for $129-$140, trade $111-$119 and light trade $102-$109. Restockers paid $86-$106/head for suitable lambs with a quick turn around in mind. New lamb demand ups rates THERE was a yarding of 441 lambs at Quoiba on Monday. New season lamb numbers were well down on last week, pushing prices to dearer levels and topping at $150, a price shared in the old lamb yarding where rates held fully firm. Heavy lambs were $129-$150, medium lambs $119-$136, and light $90-$114. A heavier penning of mutton saw more competition, especially for better lines. Heavy mutton was $80-$105 and light mutton $30-$75. There was a reasonable demand for what store lambs were on offer. Best lines were $80-$88 and secondary lines $30-$61. The 30 porkers that were yarded sold fully firm on recent better sales. Best pork was $250-$300 and secondary pork was $162.50-$240. One hundred bobby calves were yarded and there was very good demand for the very best beef types. These topped at $250. Beef calves were $60-$250 and processing calves $6-$35. New season lambs: G. M. Porter $150, Robert W. Smith $146.50, Berakah P/L $138.50, Brumaurtolisa $128.50. Old season lambs: G. J. and V. M. Hayes $150, Veensgarth partnership $141, I. J. and L. A. Charleston $137, S.tJ. and D. M. Dick $130, J. M. and S. A. Richards $129.50, G. and J. Connors $129. Mutton: Sassafras Farming (ewe) $105, P. P. and K. F. Day $103, G. J. Johnson (wethers) $101.50, D. R. and M. H. Mead (ewe) $85, Veensgarth Partnership $80. Quoiba bullocks top at 192c A LIGHTER yarding of 170 cattle was penned at Quoiba on Wednesday. Thirty Jap bullocks were mixed in breed and quality, but overall held fully firm on recent better sales, topping at 192.5c/kg. In the trade cattle section, top-quality lines met a slightly dearer trend, while the rest of the penning saw prices unchanged. A high of 213c/kg was achieved for supplementary-fed yearling steers, and yearling heifers reached a top of 210c/kg. A yarding of 30 cows met improved rates, with best beef cows selling to a top of 154c/kg and dairy cows to 145c/kg. Bullocks: EJ & BA Coy, 195.5c/kg; PJ & SL Fisher, 191c/kg; NA Johnson, 190c/kg. Heavy trade steers: Warringa Pas- toral, 197c/kg; Orbridge Estate, 196c/kg; Buster Ville, 195c/kg . Trade steers: RV & PM Frankcombe, 213c/kg; Warringa Pastoral, 199c/kg; EJ & BA Coy, 198c/kg. Heavy heifers: Orbridge Estate, 196c/kg; C Clements, 185c/kg. Trade heifers: DL Mace, 210c/kg; Forth Farm Produce, 206c/kg; S & M Pepperell, 202c/kg. Cows: C Clements, 154c/kg; KJ Boys, 145c/kg; RD & WL Padman, 139c/kg. Bridgewater Jap ox sells for $1368 THERE was a yarding of 141 cattle, 724 sheep and lambs, one pig and six calves at this week's Bridg- ewater sale. Eleven Jap ox sold from 170c-182c with the heaviest steer realising $1368. Heavy steers sold from 186c-189c. Trade cattle sold from 192c-222c with most at 210c. Lighter cattle sold from 150c-178c. Cows sold from 125c-140c --- most 140c or $900-$1000. A total of 445 lambs was yarded with one pen of new season lambs selling for $131. Heavy old season lambs sold from $110-$129, me- dium $95-$108, light $55-$88 and wool lambs $45-$88. Two-tooths sold from $36 to $87. Another light yard- ing of mutton sold to good competition, best ewes and wethers sold to $93 and light sheep from $10-$30. Sows made $160. Week-old beef cross calves sold from $160-$185.
