TAS Country : October 14th 2010
24 Tasmanian Country Friday, October 15, 2010 Advertising feature Spring machinery Pair cultivate Danish connection SMOOTH: The HE-VA Mega-Dan, which is designed for high-speed, high-output stubble incorporation, in action. Best known for their Irriland brand of irrigators, Philip and Ruth Paterson have over the past two years added a new angle to their business with the importation of the high quality Danish-made HE-VA range of cultivation equipment. Drilling contractors often comment on the level and evenness of the paddocks prior to planting' AS farmers themselves, Philip and Ruth Paterson of Moreton Hill Invest- ments are well aware of the need to maintain costs while improving soil struc- ture. Philip says the HE-VA range of equipment is easy to use, is very effective and, most importantly, it saves time and money. ''I use the tip roller to prepare for planting and in just one pass with the tractor and roller, you roll, level, firm and crush clods,'' he said. ''Drilling contractors of- ten comment on the level and evenness of the pad- docks prior to planting. ''This winter we used a combination of tip roller fitted with an air seeder to do poppy planning trials which has proved ex- tremely successful. ''I am sure this method of drilling poppies has great potential in certain circumstances.'' Key customers of the Patersons are Harvest Moon who this year or- dered two five-metre sub tillers to replace their old rigid-frame machines which did not have the hydraulic release feature and therefore required their staff to replace sheer bolts fairly regularly. ''As the machines fold up for travelling, they are working out very well for them as they often move from farm to farm down small country lanes be- tween their own properties and lease ground,'' he said. Moreton Hill Invest- ments is undertaking trials of the HE-VA Mega-Dan which is designed for high- speed, high-output stubble incorporation. Philip said the Mega- Dan used a combination of wing tines and levelling discs to allow the soil to boil and mix at speed without blocking. ''The adjustable levelling discs then produce an even finish ready to be consoli- dated by a choice of differ- ent rear rollers. ''We have been working rape stubble which had been heavily grazed over the wet winter months. ''With ever increasing fuel costs, minimum tillage cultivation is the future. ''We went into com- pacted soil with just one pass of the Mega-Dan and I am very pleased with the results.'' With their own crane truck the Patersons are happy to bring the equip- ment to prospective cus- tomers and conduct on- farm demonstrations.
