TAS Country : November 11th 2010
12 Tasmanian Country Friday, November 12, 2010 News WINNER: Toby Hall showed a level of maturity and skill beyond his years at the Sheffield Show. Toby's success a champion effort BRIAN WARD THOSE who know Scottsdale High School student Toby Hall well will tell you that ''he's been cattle handling since he could walk''. And the 13-year-old Year 7 student proved them right last weekend with an excellent display of cattle handling at the Sheffield Show. Scottsdale High School cattle handling co-ordinator Kylie Rattray said Toby showed a level of maturity and skill beyond his years, which helped him win the Tasmanian Junior Cattle Handlers Champion of Champions award. ''It was a great day for Toby -- he was elated to walk away the Champion of Champions,'' Ms Rattray said. Toby qualified for the Champion of Champions event after securing first place in his age group. One of the event's judges said it was a remarkable achievement, considering Toby's age. ''He did everything as well as, or better than, those handlers representing the older age groups,'' the judge said. Toby was among a team of 11 Scottsdale students who competed in the show. Every student won a place in their respective events. Ms Rattray said she was pleased that the group achieved success across the board. ''All students received at least a placing in their respective age groups,'' she said. ''That is a testament to their commitment and dedication and many months of training.'' Toby will take great confidence from his success at the Sheffield Show as he prepares for events at this weekend's Scottsdale Show. The achievement also means Toby will compete in the state finals at the Stanley Show on December 2.
