TAS Country : December 9th 2010
Friday, December 10, 2010 Tasmanian Country 25 Bigger and better answers feed-wagon call SATISFIED CUSTOMERS: Greg Peddle, left, and Hendrik Henselmeyer from Strautmann. WHEN they heard about the super-size Strautmann FVW 250 feed-out wagon, Gippsland dairy farmers Greg and Kim Peddle were knocking on the door to get one. The Peddles run a 750-cow dairy farm near Yarram in Gippsland pro- ducing 5.5 million litres of milk a year. In March they bought the German-made Straut- mann FVW 250 feed-out wagon and have been very pleased with its perform- ance. ''It's big and sturdy but it's light,'' Greg Peddle said. ''It doesn't mark the paddocks too much, even when I've got nine tonnes of mix in there.'' International sales and marketing manager for Strautmann Germany, Hendrik Henselmeyer, visited Australia recently after the release of the 25m3 capacity FVW 250. Hendrik said the FVW 250, launched in Hanover in November at Agrite- chnica, has been well re- ceived, particularly by dairy farmers in Germany, the UK, Netherlands, Switzerland and Austria. ''In Europe, dairy farms have been doubling in size. Farmers want bigger ma- chines that mix well with- out destroying the feed structure,'' Mr Hensel- meyer said. ''The im- proved design of the FVW 250 has made it more ro- bust and better suited to Australian conditions. ''It's a matter of seeing what's needed and provid- ing a practical, innovative solution. Strautmann's success over its 80-year history is based on a repu- tation for strong, reliable machines and we do not cut corners on design or materials.'' Strautmann products are distributed in Aust- ralia by the Inlon Agrimec Group. Inlon's Strautmann product manager, Shane Ryan, said the FVW 250 wagon's three beaters mean silage, hay and other products are well mixed before discharge. The transport floor is made from weatherproof wood and a steel frame gives maximum stability and corrosion protection. The floor's four drag link conveyor chains have a breaking strength of 13 tonnes each. Variable speed hy- draulic drive guarantees a smooth flow of fodder to the dosing unit and fast, efficient unloading. Wedge-shaped floor plates ensure complete fod- der distribution. Mr Hen- selmeyer and Mr Ryan visited the Peddles, the first Australian pur- chasers of the FVW 250 wagon. ''It's the largest feed-out wagon available in Aust- ralia. We wanted to see how it handled conditions and hear what farmers had to say about it,'' Mr Hensel- meyer said. The Peddles produce round hay bales and pit silage, and buy in wheat straw to mix. They had a 16 cubic metre Strautmann wagon before changing to a bigger New Zealand brand feed- out wagon last year. VERSATILE: The JD 5055D utility tractor with optional 512 Loader.
