''The people I met on the way through,'' he said. ''It's taken me to America. I've got good friends there now -- good genuine people.'' Leon said he gets the same feeling driving his vintage trucks as his suped- up Commodores. ''I get goose pimples,'' he said. ''The adrenaline I get in the Commodore at full noise -- it's pretty quick and that gets your ticker going. ''I remember the day I took the army truck up Park St. Bloody old thing was only doing about 20km/h but it was the noise of the engine. I got the same feeling when I was sitting in the Commodore at 200km/h. I couldn't believe it, it felt that good.'' Leon is building a bigger workshop in Hobart to house his collection of motoring memorabilia. His two daughters and son do not share their father's passion, he says.
