TAS Country : March 29th 2012
22 Tasmanian Country Friday, March 30, 2012 Top-class bulls look good buys IRONSTONE Creek Angus will offer 18 Black Dia- mond bulls at this year's sale. All the bulls have EBV figures in the top 10 per cent of the breed, with some individuals having EBVs in the top one per cent of the breed. ''We only use genetics from Te Mania and Law- sons Angus, which are at the forefront of breeding Angus in Australia and their success is noted worldwide,'' Ian Halliday said. ''The bulls are in great physical condition and there are bulls to suit any enterprise, as the sires used within the herd were selected for different traits. ''The sons of Te Mania Alfred (son of New Design 208) are all low birth- weight bulls with good growth figures and milk production. ''They would suit any heifer joining program. ''The sons of Lawsons Ironstone (Tank) are all thick meaty bulls and have the EBVs to match. ''F33 (lot 2) is a trait leader for scrotal size (+3.6), Eye Muscle (+8.5), Long Fed/ CAAB $ index ($136) and Heavy Grass Fed Steer $ index ($104). ''He is in the top five per cent of the breed for Car- case Weight (+66), Intra- muscular Fat per cent (+2.4), Short Fed Domestic Steer $ index ($86) and Terminal index ($88), and in the top 10 per cent of the breed for 400 day (+84), 600 day (+110) and mature cow weight (+104). ''We will have an open day at Powranna Sale yards on Sunday, April 15 from noon to 4pm. ''We look forward to see- ing everyone and welcome any enquiries prior.'' Angus Spring Sales An advertising feature Well behaved bulls in first autumn sale All our cattle are first and foremost selected on their temperament' DIMITY HIRST ENTALLY Forest Angus is holding its first autumn bull sale this year on Wednesday April 18 at 3.30pm. We specialise in quality, well bred bulls from the Millah Murrah Stud at Bathurst in NSW. As our parent herd, the Thomp- son Family have been ex- tremely influential in the progression of genetics here at Entally Forest. We strive to breed bulls to a type that is structur- ally correct, and easy on the eye. These bulls vary in size from heifer bulls to larger bulls aimed at feedlot mar- kets but what we are known for statewide is the fact our bulls are ex- tremely quiet. All our cattle are first and foremost selected on their temperament. We have four young girls who are hands-on with our cat- tle and their welfare, and that of my 65-year-old fath- er, who catches and tags all our calves at birth, are my first priority. We have also culled for flight speed from the crush over the more than 12 years we have been fo- cused on our Angus lines, and this has resulted in a herd of cattle that come to us in the paddock. I recently had my 13-year-old daughter out in the bull paddock with me patting and feeding her biscuit to one of the bulls in the autumn sale. None of our bulls is ever halter broken, just well handled from birth, never dogged or revved by motorbikes, and thus con- sider us as their friends. All bulls we sell are completely safe when han- dled correctly; we encour- age buyers to come and visit our bulls on sale day, to walk around them with no concerns, as our chil- dren do. On Sunday our bulls will be up on Illawarra Rd for those wanting to have a look before Wednesday. The branding on their rumps indicates their registration numbers in the catalogues that are available from your local Elders and Roberts agents. I encourage any interes- ted buyers or just in- quirers to contact me at any time on 0408 506 103. I am happy to discuss our breeding program with you in regard to the embryo transfer and arti- ficial insemination work we do. As well as the bulls that we are offering for sale this autumn, we will still be holding our annual spring sale in September 2012. Perfect specime Cattle breeders now know that if they buy from Woodbourn, their bull is guaranteed' ---CHARLES WALLACE,WOODBOURN New sires add to the quality ANOTHER year has passed and it has been a very exciting one for Woodbourn Angus stud. Known for its soft fleshing, fertile, easy-doing style of animal, Woodbourn was very pleased, over the past 12 months, to introduce two new sires to the herd. Both had outstanding physical structure and stature, but also fig- ures displaying all that stud princi- pal Charles Wallace was seeking. ''Both new sires have great birth and growth figures and that all important positive fats with high eye muscle area,'' he said. These new genetics should take the Woodbourn stud to a new level with exciting prospects for breeding program. ''This year's offering is 40 bulls and to meet the trend of more heifers being retained as breeders in the beef herds, Woodbourn is pleased that half of this year's catalogue has low birth weight bulls suitable for joining to heifers,'' Mr Wallace said. ''Also catalogued are bulls to meet the different requirements of cattle breeders, from weaner/vealers, trade and through to heavy weights. The figures are strong and the carcass figures display positive fats, with many EMA figures in the top one to five per cent for the Angus breed. ''Cattle breeders now know that if they buy from Woodbourn, their bull is guaranteed, is tested negative to BVDV, is vaccinated against Vibri- osis, Leptospirosis, BVDV, has strong Breedplan figures, will be delivered free of charge or with generous assistance, is from an MN3 herd, and has been vet checked. ''We do all we can to ensure that purchasers at Woodbourn are buy- ing a sound, healthy bull.'' Woodbourn will hold its open day on Sunday April 15 from 1pm-3pm. Inspections can be made at any time by appointment. Sale day is on Tuesday, April 17 from 10.45am.
