24 Tasmanian Country Friday, April 6, 2012 News Chairman returns to lead Food Awards on growth strategy JUDGE: Ruth Binny. TASMANIAN Fine Food Awards is set to grow. The Royal Agricultural Society of Tasmania (RAST) has appointed a new chairman to its Fine Food Awards committee. The Royal Hobart Fine Food Awards have grown annually since 1996. Last year the awards attracted entries from throughout Tasmania, interstate, and Thailand, and represent one of the major dates in the Australian food calendar. Ruth Binny was the original chair of the committee and moves back into the top spot after a two-year absence. She also chairs the awards' judging panel. Her appointment follows the resignation of Paul Beresford. The CEO of the RAST, Scott Gadd, said the awards were a major annual project and the society intended to grow them in the years ahead. ''Last year we had about 2000 entries covering all food types and coming from all over Australia, as well as Asia,'' he said. ''We intend significantly resourcing the program in the years ahead to increase their stature as a major benchmarking awards program in the Australasian food industry.''
