HAPPY 30th birthday Agfest from ABC Local Radio. From the innovators to the industrious, the ABC has been uncovering and telling the stories behind Agfest from the beginning. Once again ABC Local Radio teams up with the Bureau of Meteorology to set up camp next door to the Tasmanian Fire Service -- you'll find them at Site S82 on the corner of South St and Ninth Ave. It has also forged special links with the organisers of Agfest, Rural Youth. This year's Agfest operations manager, Martin McConnon, was a standout participant in ABC's Heywire a few years back. Former ABC Rural Woman of the Year and now ABC board member, Jane Bennett, was a foundation member of the Western Tiers Rural Youth Club and a co- ordinator of the Agfest dairy pavilion. Your Afternoon presenter Penny Terry is also an Agfest veteran, and not just as a broadcaster. ''The double socks rule at Agfest is second nature for me after the many cold and frosty mornings I've spent helping out on the family farm in Fingal -- just make sure they're always made of wool,'' Ms Terry said. She will present Your Afternoons on Friday from 2pm to 4pm and she is looking forward to introducing Leon Compton to his very first Agfest. Leon will present the Mornings program on Thursday from 8.30am to 11am. ''I've heard all about Agfest from my colleagues and I can't wait to get there,'' he said. The Country Hour team, headed by Sally Dakis, will broadcast from noon to 1pm on both days. There'll be a competition, with 50 Fit Tassie prize packs to win, to help you improve your wellbeing.
